To say that planning a wedding can be stressful and overwhelming would be an understatement.

1. Get a calendar and start scheduling. Calendars are an invaluable resource when it comes to planning anything from your wedding day to moving in together or starting a family. They’re particularly useful if you’re scatterbrained like me and can never remember what day of the week it is, let alone where your next dentist appointment is scheduled. If a paper calendar isn’t your style, try downloading an app on your phone; whatever works best will help you stay organized. 2. Hold yourself accountable by checking off boxes as you complete them. The satisfaction we get from crossing things off our list makes us feel accomplished—so make sure that includes every task involved with planning your wedding (but don’t stress too much about making sure each box gets checked right away). 3. Keep track of money spent and give yourself budget caps so you don’t go over-budget accidentally. Money adds up quickly with wedding expenses! You might want to set spending limits and create different spending categories for different areas, such as bridal party gifts, event décor, dress shopping, etc., so you know exactly how much you have left in certain areas. If keeping track doesn’t work well for you, be sure to keep receipts and log all your purchases; that way it’s easy to figure out how close or far off course you are with regards to cost. To keep those expenses down, even more, consider DIY projects or sourcing items at discount retailers. For example, one alternative to hiring a DJ for your reception is sourcing music online and playing it through either a smartphone/iPod connection or laptops you cut your cake and dance with friends.
